Summerside Police Services’ Deputy Chief Sinclair Walker has been named Municipal Police Officer of the Year by P.E.I. Crime Stoppers.

The award was presented Friday at a luncheon in Charlottetown.

Crime Stoppers holds this event each year to acknowledge and thank police members and support staff of all Island police services.

Awards were presented in two categories; one to a member of the RCMP and one to a member of a municipal police service. Nominees must have been currently working in the province of P.E.I. and the nominations were judge independently by a three-person panel consisting of retired police officers.

Walker was named municipal officer of the year and Cpl. Jennifer McCarron of the Charlottetown Police Service was named runner up.

The 2018 Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer of the Year was Sgt. Chris Gunn of the Kings District RCMP and Cpl. Jerrie MacLeod of Prince District was selected as runner up.
