STRATFORD, P.E.I. — The fans have spoken, and Phinley’s Diner’s Bourbon Street creation has been named the Most Loved Burger for 2019.

Once again, P.E.I. Burger Love fans voted online and gave the Stratford restaurant the win.

In the nine years since Burger Love started, this is the first time a restaurant has ever repeated the title; its first win was in 2013.

The Bourbon Street features a seven-ounce Island beef patty, homemade purple slaw, aged cheddar cheese, bacon, Louisiana Bourbon and garlic white barbecue sauce, Sriracha kettle chips and crisp leaf lettuce on a peppercorn Kaiser bun.

The burger is expected back on the menu May 13.

In a statement on Facebook, a spokesperson for Phinley’s said they were proud of their staff.

“Every single person was 100 per cent committed to our goal of winning. In this case, hard work paid off,” read the statement. “Hats off to the other restaurants and their staff. A big thanks to all our suppliers who made extra trips and special orders to keep pumping the burgers out.”

This year, Burger Love saw 85 restaurants serving up one-of-a-kind burgers as part of the award-winning food marketing campaign, which is a creation of Fresh Media.

The total overall number of burgers sold has now surpassed the one million mark in the 279 days the campaign has been active.

Collectively, the total sales of burgers alone reached over $13.2 million, with more than 439,000 pounds of beef consumed since the campaign launched. This equates to more than 1,500 pounds per day.

Of the participating restaurants, 39 opted into the Give Back Burger initiative, where $1 of every burger sold went to Anderson House, an emergency shelter for women and children in need of safety because of violence in their lives. A total of $86,038 was raised the shelter, which is a record total for the program.
