SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - Temperatures were low, but the spirits high as a local film crew hit up a number of Prince County locations.

The team of about 30 are attached to Summerside author and filmmaker Susan Rodgers' “Still the Water” feature film project. To help attract funding, Rodgers and her team spent the weekend shooting a teaser/proof-of-concept short.

“It’s just nice to have something they can see, touch, taste or smell,” said Rodgers, referring to potential investors. “In this case, they will be able to get a real sense of the story and the amazing visuals we can create.”

The past year, the film has been laying the groundwork for full production. Shooting was originally scheduled to start last spring, but a delay in funding pushed it back.

However, Rodgers and the production company, A Mighty Ocean Film Inc., have formed a provincially regulated community economic development business, which allowed them to sell investment shares in their project. They recently opened a second share offering, which will allow them to take on additional investors.

It’s exciting to finally get behind the camera on the project, Rodgers said.

The crew filmed on Malpeque Bay, at The Plex rink in Slemon Park, at Uncle Mike’s restaurant in Summerside and a few other locations.

Edith Cole, of Clinton, is a long-time fan of Rodgers’ “Drifters” books series. When she found out about “Still the Water,” she offered to help any way she could.

It was a great experience and she can’t wait to see the finished product, she said.

“It’s so amazing to see her characters come to life.”

Rodgers said the video footage should be edited and ready for release within a couple of weeks. Anyone interested in seeing it can go online to stillthewatermovie.ca or check out their Facebook page by clicking here.
