Spare wind turbine parts pass through Summerside

A huge wind turbine blade was recently offloaded from a vessel docked in Summerside and transported through the city.

The blade is one of three of its kind, designed for Nordex-Acciona AW 3,000 wind turbines, arriving in the province for storage at the Hermanville Wind Farm in eastern P.E.I.

The P.E.I. Energy Corporation requested the designer of the turbines, Spain-based Acciona, have some spare blades on hand here in case they are needed to make emergency repairs at the wind farm. However, the blades are not owned by the province, just being stored here by Acciona. If they are eventually needed to make repairs in another Maritime province they would be shipped off P.E.I.
