GEORGETOWN, P.E.I. — A 27-year-old Souris man has been sentenced to 70 days in jail for driving while impaired by a drug.

Stephen Terrance Peters also had another 10 days of jail time tacked on for failing to comply with a probation order.

Peters told police he snorted speed shortly before he got behind the wheel on May 26, 2018 before crashing onto a lawn in Morell East.

Firefighters and paramedics provided treatment to Peters and two passengers of his vehicle. All three were taken to hospital.

The court heard Peters, who has been convicted in the past on three driving while disqualified offences and an impaired driving charge, has not used drugs since the incident.

His lawyer said Peters, who is a lobster fisherman by trade, is eager to move forward in a positive manner.
