PALMER ROAD

As much of a fixture at the Palmer Road Parish Picnic as the Bingo booth and the games of chance is popular West Prince band, Shiloh. Ever since the annual picnic started up again 33 years ago, Shiloh has been part of the festivities, performing musical sets and playing backup for the local performers who cross the picnic’s stage.

  1. Perry and Victor Doucette on lead guitars and vocals, Aubrey Arsenault on bass and vocals and Robbie Thibodeau on drums and vocals, have been part of the picnic entertainment crew from the beginning, and fiddler Steven Perry joined the band six years ago.

It is a big undertaking, as the band sets up the day before the picnic and they help with the sound for the outdoor Mass which precedes the picnic.

“It’s a team effort,” said Doucette. “We all work at it together.”

The 34th annual picnic is set for this Sunday, August 19, beginning with the outdoor Mass at 11 a.m. Meals, games and entertainment start at 12. Palourdes is the opening musical act at 12:30 and Shiloh takes over at 2 p.m.

Special attractions throughout the day include Crown & Anchor, horse and wagon rides, lotteries, lobster and ham meals, canteen, bake sale and flea market, kids corner, quilt display in the church, stained glass window tour, silent auction and live cake auction.

The picnic runs until 6 p.m.
