CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. man who was found guilty of 15 sex offences going back more than 20 years will be back in court next week to hear his sentence.
Leo Arnold Dowling, 63, appeared before Justice Nancy Key in P.E.I. Supreme Court in Charlottetown for sentencing after she found him guilty in January of charges that included sexual assault, sexual interference and indecent assault.
All of Dowling’s seven victims were younger than 16 at the time of the offences.
Some of the allegations against Dowling included that he touched the victims on their breasts and vaginal area over and under their clothing.
During the trial, the court heard several witnesses were aware someone sent Dowling’s wife an anonymous letter around the time of the offences that said he liked to touch little girls.
Dowling testified he thought the letter was just a prank, so he didn’t do anything about it.
On Wednesday, the court heard the Crown and defence were making a joint recommendation of two years in prison with a period of probation to follow.
Dowling is not in custody as he awaits the sentencing.
A publication ban prevents the release of any details that could identify the victims.
