NAIL POND, P.E.I. - Two recent drug busts in western Prince County have likely taken a bite out of the local cocaine trade, police said.
The Prince District Joint Forces Operations Drug Unit (JFO) executed a search warrant at a home in Nail Pond on Dec. 19 and seized $33,000 in cash, two ounces of cocaine, methamphetamine tablets, oxycodone tablets and ammunition.
A 44-year-old man was arrested and later released. Charges against him are pending.
RCMP Cpl. Nick Doyle, who works with the JFO, said that Wednesday’s arrest, coupled with a similar but unrelated bust in Alberton where police seized a pound of cocaine, should make a significant impact on the local illegal drug trade.
“One hundred per cent it was a significant arrest and seizure,” said Doyle, adding three months of investigation led to this latest search warrant being executed.
“It will have a good community impact up in western P.E.I.”
Doyle said that while prescription drug medication abuse remains a problem in Prince County, other street drugs like cocaine and methamphetamine are starting to take a larger share of the market.
Doyle said he could not release the identity of, or any more information about, the accused in this case until after charges are officially laid.
