Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Friday.
Islanders can expect between 30 and 50 millimetres of rain in most areas, and up to 80 mm where the rainfall will be heaviest.
A low-pressure system was set to bring heavy rain beginning late Thursday night or early this morning. The weather agency said the rain would end late Friday night or early Saturday morning.
The rain is forecast to persist throughout Friday night into Saturday before beginning to ease late Saturday night.
Environment Canada said heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
