SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The reopening of the Credit Union Place's swimming pool is delayed due to contracting issues.

Coun. Cory Snow, who chairs the city's community services committee, updated Summerside councillors during their regular meeting at city hall on Sept. 21. Work started this summer to retile the pool for the first time since it was built.

"With the pandemic going on, there was probably no better time to shut down the pool for work to be done," Snow said.

Snow noted the delays were not caused by the contractor but in co-ordinating with subcontractors. He also wishes the pool didn't have to be closed for as long as it has been.

"But we're on track to hopefully have portions of the pool open in October."

About $200,000 was allocated from the city's capital budget, which Snow said was a "best-guess estimate" at a May council meeting.

The city only received one bid from Tile Master Inc. to do the job for about $400,000, which council approved.
