SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — A 56-year-old Summerside man has been arrested after police seized drugs and cash from his residence last Friday.

The Prince District Joint Force Operations (JFO) Drug Unit, which is comprised of RCMP and Summerside and Kensington police members, executed a search warrant in Summerside on Feb. 8.

As a result, 27 oxycodone tablets and about $1,400 in cash were seized.

The man, who was known to police, lives near a school, said RCMP Cpl. Nick Doyle.

“When we have information of someone selling drugs near a school, they kid of rise to the top of the list.”

Doyle said in his 11 years on the Island, he’s seen the use of opioids, like oxycodone and hydromorphone, increase in the Summerside area.

Methamphetamine use has also increased, he said.

The man will appear in court at a later date and will face charges of possession with the purpose of trafficking.
