BORDEN-CARLETON, P.E.I. - Strait Crossing announced changes to toll plaza operations “to meet changing consumer habits and redeploy its resources more effectively’’.
During a recent test period, Strait Crossing says it was able to determine that cash transactions now only account for five per cent of all overnight transactions, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. each day.
Strait Crossing has decided to continue to accept cash transactions between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. but only in lane 1.
Poll: How do you usually pay to cross the Confederation Bridge?
“This will be the prevailing situation eight months out of 12 excluding June 1 to September 30, which are the busy tourism months’’ Strait Crossing said in a statement.
“We remind motorists of available payment options 24/7 in addition to cash which includes: transponders, gift cards, debit/credit (Visa, Master Card, Amex) including the convenience of Tap ‘n Go which gets you on your way in seconds.’’
Borden-Kinkora MLA and Opposition Transportation Critic says he is pleased to learn Strait Crossing will not be phasing out cash transactions entirely, which had been a concern raised by both users of the bridge and staff.
