CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A Stratford woman who had a bong on her passenger seat when she was caught driving impaired was sentenced recently to 20 days in jail.
Eden Haley McPhee, 27, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown where she pleaded guilty to impaired driving.
Crown attorney Chad McQuaid told the court that on Jan. 3 a witness saw McPhee’s vehicle swerving, driving on the wrong side of the road and almost hitting another vehicle.
McQuaid said that when the police stopped McPhee, they didn’t note any smell of alcohol but did find a bong on her vehicle’s front passenger seat.
The police took a blood sample that found McPhee had cannabis component THC in her system along with methamphetamine.
McPhee had a prior conviction from 2012 for refusing to provide a breath sample.
Along with the jail time, McPhee must pay a $1,000 fine and is banned from driving for one year.
