Weather

It will be mainly sunny across the province today. Northwest winds gusting up to 40 km/h is expected. Today’s high is -8 C, but with wind chill, it will feel like -22 C in the morning and -13 C in the afternoon.

There will be increased cloudiness tonight with a 60 per cent chance of flurries before morning with wind gusting up to 15 km/h. Tonight’s low is -13 C, but with the wind chill it will feel like -14 C in the evening and -19 C overnight.

WINTER STORM WARNING: Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

Snow will begin ahead of an approaching low-pressure system early Wednesday morning. Snow will become heavy at times throughout the day, before mixing with or changing to ice pellets Wednesday afternoon. The total snow and ice pellet accumulations of 20 to 30 centimetres are expected by late Wednesday afternoon, with additional amounts possible for Wednesday evening.

Strong easterly winds are also expected to develop on Wednesday, with gusts reaching 80 km/h by Wednesday afternoon. These winds in combination with the snow will create poor visibility in blowing snow Wednesday afternoon, and will continue to cause difficult travel conditions into Wednesday evening.

Conditions will improve late Wednesday night as precipitation tapers off.

Motorists should consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
