The public is invited to provide input to upcoming changes to legislation impacting children in P.E.I. to help modernize and strengthen the justice system for families.
Upcoming legislative changes will help align provincial and federal legislation and combine various pieces of legislation related to children into one modern piece of legislation.
With the intended changes, Island families should also have easier access to justice for legal matters related to children and more out of court resolution supports.
Justice Minister Bloyce Thompson said the court system can be overwhelming and said it’s important for government to hear from the public “to ensure their voices are captured to help make these upcoming changes”.
“We want to alleviate as much pressure as possible for Island families who are facing difficult legal matters by having strong and robust legislation in place,” said Thompson.
Islanders are encouraged to review the consultation paper and provide written submissions by email at [email protected] by March 6.
