CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – A 69-year-old P.E.I. driver with a blood-alcohol reading nearly three times the legal limit was sentenced to seven days in jail recently in Charlottetown provincial court.

Donald James MacKinnon was also fined $1,500 by Chief Judge Nancy Orr and banned from driving for one year.

Court heard that on July 6 at Argyle Shore, MacKinnon was pulled over for driving erratically at 10:38 p.m. by police.

MacKinnon, who showed signs of impairment, provided two breathalyzer samples – both 230 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 mg.

MacKinnon had no prior criminal record.
