GEORGETOWN, P.E.I. — A judge told a P.E.I. man who is too young to legally drink that his decision to drive while impaired will prove costly.
Chief Provincial Court Judge Nancy Orr recently sentenced Brandon James Robertson, 18, to three days in jail after Robertson pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle on April 21 in Roseneath with a blood alcohol reading over the legal limit.
The judge also fined Robertson $1,000 and told the man to expect to pay about five times what most others pay for car insurance.
“It’s an expensive day, sir,’’ said Orr.
Robertson does not need to think about car insurance for the time being. He is prohibited from driving for two years.
Robertson, who has graduated from high school and is in his first year of fishing, had a graduated licence, which prohibits the motorist from driving with any alcohol in his or her system.
Orr noted concern seeing an increase over the past couple years of people not of legal drinking age being convicted of impaired driving.
