GEORGETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. man is facing several charges, including criminal negligence causing death, in connection with a fatal collision between two fishing boats near Beach Point in 2018.
Clarence Barry White wasn’t in provincial court in Georgetown on Thursday when his case was called before Chief Judge Nancy Orr.
Instead, the lawyers for the Crown and defence took part in the proceedings by phone.
White, who has yet to enter pleas, is facing two counts of criminal negligence causing death and two charges under the Canada Shipping Act.
Justin MacKay, 20, and Chris Melanson, 59, died on June 9, 2018, after the boat Forever Chasin’ Tail collided with theirs as it approached the Beach Point harbour entrance.
Both men were on the Joel ’98. The Transportation Safety Board determined Forever Chasin’ Tail was on autopilot when it hit the other boat and landed on top of the deck.
During Thursday’s proceedings, the defence asked for an adjournment, saying they hadn’t received the disclosure of evidence yet.
Orr adjourned the matter until Aug. 13.
