The governing Liberals say they will enhance programs and services from the earliest years to post-secondary education, if re-elected.
“Our education system is the foundation upon which we will build future prosperity for Islanders,” said Liberal Leader Wade MacLauchlan during an election stop at Holland College Wednesday.
“The education innovations we are proposing will support young Islanders for the next generation and make sure they have the best resources available to excel in a changing world.”
For the youngest residents, Liberals propose implementing 300 new childcare spaces – including many devoted to infant care – as well as new investments in training and compensation for early learning educators.
They also promise they will hire 150 new frontline staff for the school system, including teachers, psychologists and counsellors, as well as ensuring vocational training is available at every Island high school.
The Liberals say, if re-elected they will invest $125 million in school infrastructure and renewal.
The party also promises to provide a $500 learning bond for every Islander younger than 16 to help cover post-secondary costs for text books, residence, tuition and out-of-province study.
They say there will be more bursaries for Island students attending the University of Prince Edward Island, Holland College and College de l’Ile.
