As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, Education Minister Brad Trivers said he will have his department look into a moratorium on student loan payments.

Trivers made the remark in response to questions from Summerside-Wilmot MLA Lynne Lund Friday in the legislature.

Earlier this year, payments on provincial and federal student loans were temporarily suspended to help people deal with potential financial hardship due to the pandemic.
That payment suspension ended in September.

Lund asked if Trivers would consider renewing the payment moratorium.

He responded by saying he wouldn’t commit to anything but would take it back to his department for consideration.

“I think that’s a great suggestion,” Trivers said.
