Social Development and Housing Minister Ernie Hudson announced on Wednesday plans to construct 64 new social housing units in five communities.

Twelve of the units will be divided between Kensington and Tignish and will be constructed by private developers. The province has signed a 20-year agreement with the developers to maintain the housing as affordable, with construction starting this summer.

Thirty-two affordable housing units will be constructed in Summerside, while 10 will be constructed in Morell and 10 in Georgetown. These units will be owned by the P.E.I. Housing Corporation and are slated for completion in spring 2022.
