CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. man who was in an accident that ended with his vehicle on its roof while he was driving drunk was sentenced recently to three days in jail.

James Brandon Gillis, 19, appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown, where he pleaded guilty to drunk driving.

Crown attorney Lisa Goulden told the court that on April 24 at around 1:30 a.m. the police were dispatched to a single-vehicle accident near the entrance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The court heard Gillis was the driver and the vehicle ended up on its roof. Gillis later provided breathalyzer samples that were above the legal limit.

Along with the jail time, Gillis must pay a $1,000 fine and is banned from driving for one year.
