CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — There is a new case of COVID-19 in P.E.I.
The individual is a man in his 50s and is a close contact of a previously announced case.
The man tested negative initially, but after developing symptoms tested positive. He has been in self-isolation and is being followed daily by public health.
Dr. Heather Morrison, P.E.I.’s chief public health officer, is reminding all Islanders to get tested if they experience any symptoms of COVID-19 and self-isolate until the results come back.
Islanders are also encouraged to download the free national COVID Alert app, which will let them know if they have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
As of Friday, P.E.I. has 24 active cases of COVID-19 and has had a total of 139 positive cases since the onset of the pandemic.
Around the region on Friday, Newfoundland and Labrador reported one new case, while there were two new cases in Nova Scotia and four new cases in New Brunswick. The active case numbers in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador, respectively, are 33, 31 and 113.
