This 90-foot tower behind the village office in Lawrencetown is one of two erected to offer highspeed Internet via WiFi signal in the village and surrounding area. At least two more towers will be erected and a fifth is possible for nearby Paradise where interest in the project is high. A meeting to update citizens and potential subscribers to the co-operative is set for March 27 at 7 p.m. at the Library.

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The P.E.I. Broadband Fund is another step towards improving internet services for Islanders across the province.

The fund (PEIBF) will provide financial assistance for the installation of infrastructure to enhance broadband services.

Island communities, businesses and internet service providers (ISPs) can apply now for up to 50 per cent of eligible costs for a project approved through the PEIBF.

The P.E.I. government will invest $10 million into the PEIBF over the next five years.

“Islanders need quality and affordable high-speed internet for education, business growth and overall quality of life,” said Economic Growth Minister Matthew MacKay. “This fund will help Island companies, support our local internet service providers and meet the needs of our growing communities now and into the future.”
