O’Leary Town Council is ready to move ahead with the development of a 17-lot residential subdivision.
The subdivision, in what is generally called the Pate Property, is located along Main Street, off the end of Gaspe Road.
“We’ve gone with a Plan B, council development chairman, Blake Adams, advised councilors. He said he believes the new plan solves the water management issues that stalled the previous plan.
Council, following an in-camera discussion, reconvened to approve a motion to get the lots pinned and to apply for a water management permit.
Once the lots are pinned, council will be ready to advertise the front four for sale as they will have direct access off of Main Street. Jubilee Avenue will need to be extended to access back lots.
The lots are relatively large, approximately 125 by 260 feet, mayor Eric Gavin said.
The previous subdivision plan was going to develop the subdivision in two phases. The new plan will make all 17 lots available as soon as provincial approval is given, Adams said.
Besides addressing water management concerns, Adams said the new plan should make sewer and storm water management less costly.
“There’s definitely a substantial saving going with this design over the previous one,” he acknowledged.
Cannibis store proposal to be resubmitted
A cannabis store could be the anchor council needs to proceed with a planned strip mall.
Town Council decided Thursday to submit a revised response to the provincial government’s RFP (Request for Proposals) for a cannabis store in West Prince. The provincial government has already approved two cannabis stores in P.E.I., but no responses for a store in West Prince were deemed suitable. It has re-issued the RFP.
Adams told council that the chances of the strip mall proceeding are significantly greater if the town gets a cannabis store to be part of it.
