A 53-year-old man from Tryon has been charged with impaired driving after an off duty RCMP officer reported him on Thursday.
The officer called in to dispatch to let them know he was following a vehicle on Route 1 and he suspected the driver was impaired.
While on duty officers were on their way, the suspect’s car left the road and crashed into the ditch. The driver was arrested when drivers arrived a few moments later.
The RCMP allege the driver’s breath samples were more than twice the legal limit.
The driver will make a first court appearance on Feb. 1, 2018.
