CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — With thousands of COVID-19 tests completed over the weekend, all of the results received as of this afternoon have come back negative.

Chief public health officer Dr. Heather Morrison provided the update today in a news release in which she said 6,632 COVID-19 tests were completed Saturday and Sunday.

The latest results include tests from the Three Oaks Senior High School clinic in Summerside, which was set up for targeted testing of young people in the area.

As of this afternoon, there were 1,600 test results still pending.

On Sunday, Morrison and Premier Dennis King announced new restrictions for three days under a modified alert level red in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus after outbreaks in the Summerside and Charlottetown areas.

Changes to testing sites for March 2:

  • The testing site at Stratford Town Hall will be open until 8 p.m. tonight for people aged 19-29 who work in the food service industry, meat and fish processing plants, call centres, transportation and delivery or any long-term care staff who are not vaccinated and do not have symptoms until. It was previously open only to 19-24 year olds working in those industries.
  • The Three Oaks Senior High School testing site is extending availability to be open until 6 p.m. for 25-29 year olds who work in the food service industry, meat and fish processing plants, call centres, transportation and delivery, or any long-term care staff who are not vaccinated and who do not have symptoms. This clinic was also previously open today to 19-24 year olds.

That outbreak includes 17 cases confirmed within a five-day span.

There are 18 active cases of COVID-19 in the province and more than 190 people have been identified as close contacts of those cases.

Under the current temporary restrictions, schools, post-secondary institutions and non-essential businesses are all closed.

Other restrictions on gatherings are also in place.

Morrison will provide a further update on the COVID-19 situation tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.
