SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — There were no injuries following a small fire at Dixie Lee Chicken in Summerside Thursday morning.

Summerside Fire Department responded to a call about a fire at the popular restaurant March 13 shortly after 9 a.m.

Multipel engines, ladder and rescue trucks, attended the scene, as well as rescue vehicles.

“We don’t know the cause right now,” said Deputy Fire Chief Tom Peters. “It looks like the fire was in the small laundry room/staff area. I do know that the damage will be minimal.”

Co-owner/operator Major Stewart called the department shortly after arriving at the establishment.

“After I arrived, I noticed a smell and made the call. I didn’t want to open any doors to see where it was, and they told me to get out of the building right away.”

Stewart said the fire may delay the restaurant’s opening, but no damage has been done to the kitchen facilities.
