A physician has been secured to replace another physician who recently stopped seeing patients in Wellington.
The physician, who the province did not name but said is currently practicing in P.E.I., will provide medical services to the community one day a week in the Wellington Health Centre.
Another physician had been seeing patients one day per week at Le Chez-Nous seniors’ home, but decided not to continue the service after they lost their office to that facility’s ongoing renovations.
“When we first heard that the former physician was leaving and that a space was no longer available, we immediately began looking for a new space and physicians who could fill the role,” said Health Minister James Aylward.
“It was a pleasure to meet with the mayor of Wellington and MLA Sonny Gallant this afternoon to let them know that the vacant position has now been filled. We are also fortunate that the physician is bilingual and will be providing services in both English and French to residents.”
The new doctor’s office requires renovations, so it is anticipated they will begin practicing in Wellington in April 2020.
