CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — P.E.I. MLAs have unanimously approved new appointments for three independent officer positions, who will all act as key watchdogs on the current government.

MLA’s approved the appointment of Darren Noonan, a president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Prince Edward Island, as the auditor general. Noonan will take over from Jane MacAdam who served in the position since 2013.

Marvin M. Bernstein, who has previously held the position of children’s advocate for the province of Saskatchewan, has been appointed as the child and youth advocate. Michele Dorsey, a former deputy minister, had served as the interim child and youth advocate after being appointed by the cabinet of the previous Liberal government.

Denise Doiron, who has served as legal counsel for the province of P.E.I. for about 22 years, will be the new information and privacy commissioner. Doiron will replace Karen Rose, who served in the role for almost 10 years.
