SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — A 36-year-old Summerside man was revived with two doses of naloxone on Wednesday afternoon.

The man had overdosed on fentanyl.

Police were called to a Summerside residence on Feb. 24 at 12:30 p.m. by Island EMS paramedics. They were on the scene of an overdose and required assistance. Police and members of the fire department responded.

People at the residence said the man collapsed shortly after arriving.

They had a naloxone kit and administered the medication. They were able to tell police the man had consumed fentanyl.

The man showed signs of improvement but deteriorated again, at which time police administered a second dose of naloxone. The man eventually recovered and refused any further medical treatment.

Police encourage anyone consuming narcotics to make sure they are not alone and to have a naloxone kit on hand in case problems like this occur.

A small amount of suspected fentanyl was recovered by police at the scene.
