Northumberland Ferries crossings cancelled today, tomorrow; Confederation Bridge currently closed to all traffic

All Northumberland Ferries crossings have been cancelled for Nov. 14-15.

Maritime Electric

There are currently 31 Maritime Electric customers without power.

The Guardian will update as more information is made available.


Traffic

Road work will continue around Charlottetown today causing traffic delays and/or road closures in some areas.

Belvedere Avenue will be reduced to one lane of alternating traffic between Parkview Drive and Mount Edward Road this week.

Work will also take place on Parkview Drive, Elizabeth Street, High Street and Christie Drive.

These streets will be reduced to one lane of alternating traffic. Traffic control personnel will be on-site, but drivers may want to seek alternate routes. Sidewalks in the area may also be impacted during this work. Local traffic will be permitted through.

Sidewalk work will also take place on Queen Street between Paton Court and the east side of Atlantic Road.


Weather

It’ll be a cloudy day today with a 60 per cent chance of flurries today and tonight with winds gusting up to 100 km/h beginning this morning.

The temperature is going to fall to minus 8 C this afternoon, with a windchill of -11 in the morning and -20 C in the afternoon. It will rise to -4 C by morning with a windchill of -18 C.

ADVISORY: A weather warning is in effect for Prince Edward Island.

Strong winds gusting up to 100 km/h are expected to begin this morning across P.E.I.

A rapidly intensifying low-pressure system will track across the Gulf of St. Lawrence this morning bringing strong west to northwest winds.

These strong winds are expected to persist through the night and gradually diminish through the day Thursday, and may cause damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows.

High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds.

Confederation Bridge Conditions

ADVISORY: The Confederation Bridge has restricted certain classes of vehicles from crossing until the current high wind situation changes.

Restricted classes include:

- Automobiles towing trailers

- Motorcycles

- High-sided vehicles, including trucks, tractor trailers, recreational vehicles and buses.
