After the Progressive Conservatives promised to increase the amount of the George Coles bursary for students, Tignish-Palmer Road MLA Hal Perry is asking why that hasn’t happened yet.

During Friday’s question period, Perry asked about a 2019 election promise to increase the bursary for post-secondary students.

Island students who attend a post-secondary school in P.E.I. are eligible for $2,200 a year, which the PCs promised to increase to $3,000.

Perry asked Education Minister Brad Trivers why the government hasn’t increased the bursary as promised.

“I believe it is fair to say students need financial support now more than ever,” he said.

Trivers said he stands behind the supports the government gives to students in P.E.I.
