Montague RCMP are warning the public about a credit card scam where suspect(s) are calling pretending to be from the intended victim’s credit card company.
The offenders are then offering zero percent interest rates in an attempt to obtain victim’s credit card numbers.
The public is asked to vigilant when receiving telemarketing requests and remember to not give out any personal information over the phone.
Don't be intimidated by high-pressure sales tactics.
If a telemarketer tries to get you to buy something or to send them money right away: request the information in writing; hang up; watch out for urgent pleas that play on your emotions.
Report any such types of calls to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (https://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/report-signalez-eng.htm).
If you have been defrauded and a victim of a crime, report it to your police office of jurisdiction.
