KENSINGTON, P.E.I. —
KENSINGTON, P.E.I. - PC incumbent Matthew MacKay easily held on in his home district of Kensington-Malpeque.
District 20 made headlines across the country when another Matthew MacKay threw his hat in the ring with the Green party in the same district.
The Green MacKay added his middle initial J. to allow voters to easily distinguish between them on the ballot.
Matthew J. finished in second place, but it was a distant finish as the incumbent MacKay swept the region, which includes the Town of Kensington in the heart, as it covers the eastern shore of Malpeque Bay down and across almost to the edge of Emerald in central P.E.I.
MacKay was grateful to the support he received from team members, crediting them with a big part of his victory.
“I had an unbelievable team, let me tell ya, that worked just as hard as I did in this election,” he said.
They worked hard to get voters to the advance polls.
Early during election night he said he was glad he was in the lead as some seats he thought were safe were not.
MacKay has missed getting to tuck his kids into bed during the busy campaign. His wife, Alisha, 11-year old Kennedy and 22-month old twins Charlotte and Wyatt were on his mind election night.
“The first thing I’m probably going to do tomorrow is wake up and give my wife and my family a hug for being there to support me. They pretty well put their lives on hold here for the past month. They haven’t seen too much of me, and that’s the first thing I’m going to do is thank them, there’s no doubt about it.”
