Dear readers,
There’s no question we are at a critical time – the long-term health and well-being of our community will depend on our collective actions over the coming days and weeks.
In an effort to ensure all readers have access to accurate, timely and vital public health information, we’ve removed the paywall on all of our COVID-19 coverage.
Our journalists and teams are working diligently to support their local communities. We are mindful of the balance between adding to your concern and ensuring people have the information they need to make critical decisions for their families, their own health and their businesses.
It’s in moments like these when it becomes crystal clear to me that our role as local media is vital to the success of our communities. The number of people visiting our digital platforms has doubled as people are trying to get the information they need. This is how we know that providing unrestricted access to COVID-19 coverage is the right thing to do. However, we hope you understand that producing and providing this information requires an investment, and your financial support for local journalism is vital to its survival.
We intend to keep our COVID-19 coverage open to all for as long as it is needed. If you do not currently have a membership, and are in a position to support local journalism, we hope you consider purchasing a membership. We truly are in this together and, now more than ever, our collective health and safety depends on reliable, accurate and thoughtful journalism.
Atlantic Canadians are known for being resourceful and resilient. We rise in hard times. This time is no exception. We all need to do our part to ensure our most vulnerable are protected, our health care systems are supported and our spirits stay lifted.
Let us all stay safe and connected at this time,
Mark Lever, President & CEO, SaltWire Network
