Islanders once again showed their support for local businesses by taking part in the 10th annual P.E.I. Burger Love campaign.

The campaign usually takes place during the month of April, but because of the pandemic, an extended version of the campaign took place over six weeks during September and October.

Even with COVID-19 hurdles and restaurants dealing with reduced in-room capacity, there were 152,143 burgers sold during P.E.I. Burger Love; almost as many burgers as Islanders. That equates $2.12 million in just burger sales. When organizers factor in the additional sales of sides, beverages and gratuity, it is estimated that the positive economic impact of the 2020 P.E.I. Burger Love campaign was more than $3.3 million in 45 days.

For the Most Loved Burger, the winner was again decided by fans through online voting. The 2020 title went to “Olde Fashioned Row” from Chef Billy Shields and his team at Row House Steak & Lobster Co. in Charlottetown.

This winning burger featured an 8 oz Island Beef Patty in a Red Wine Demi Glaze, Smoked Whisky Aioli, Shredded Romaine Lettuce, Pepperoncini Bacon, Red Chili Gouda and Aged White Cheddar Cheese Blend, Tomato, Candied Bermuda Onion, Buffalo Hickory Sticks, and Creamy BBQ Sauce on a Toasted Brioche Bun topped with a Spicy Goat Cheese Wonton. The burger will return to the menu when Row House reopens in 2021.

This year also included over half of the featured burgers being Give Back Burgers, an initiative where $1 of every burger sold is donated to Anderson House, an emergency shelter for women and children who are in need of safety because of violence in their lives. When the Give Back Burgers were tallied, $77,364 was raised in support Anderson House.
