KENSINGTON, P.E.I. — Residents in the Town of Kensington are now paying more for water and sewer services.

Mayor Rowan Caseley announced during town council's January monthly meeting that the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission (IRAC) has approved a three-per-cent increase for the sewer rate and a six-per-cent increase for water.

Residents paid $49.30 for combined water and sewer rates in 2020. This number increased to $51.37 on Jan. 1, 2021.

The reason for increases is so the Water and Pollution Corporation can operate with a positive net income and allow the corporation to proceed with the necessary projects on the five-year capital plan.

The town submitted its application to IRAC for a rate increase on Aug. 12, 2020.
