O’LEARY, P.E.I. - Council will list a vacant town-owned property on Willow Avenue with a realtor.
The town had advertised the property, where Bryanton’s Clover Farm once stood, for sale by tender.
Two tenders were received after the tender deadline. Council considered the bids during an in-camera session during its January meeting and subsequently deemed them unacceptable.
Maintenance building needs maintenance
An evaluation of the town’s maintenance building has been ordered by O’Leary council.
That follows a recent walk-through by council’s new municipal properties committee chairman Kevin Maynard, who reported serious structural deficiencies to all exterior walls with support beams that he said appear to be dug into the ground.
Besides the water damage to the beams, twater pools on the building’s concrete floor following heavy rains or thaws, while the section with a clay floor gets too muddy to use at certain times of the year.
Council decided to research whether to repair the building or relocate the maintenance department.
Council steers clear of snow-clearing precedent
Council rejected a request from the O’Leary rink and curling club to have the town’s maintenance staff take over snow clearing from the sports facilities' shared parking lot.
Coun. Kevin Maynard agreed the facilities are two of the town’s most important resources, but said he felt the request is not something the town should approve.
Finance chair Darren MacKinnon said it would set a dangerous precedent.
“We’d have to do the same for everybody.”
The motion to decline the request carried by a 4-0 vote with two councillors abstaining because of their association with the sports centre.
Council did approve a $200 contribution towards entering or sponsoring a team in a Red Tide bonspiel in support of the curling club.
Sponsor for Chamber Awards Gala
Town council will sponsor an award at the West Prince Chamber of Commerce Awards Gala next month.
Council agreed to a $500 sponsorship, the same as what the town provided for last year’s inaugural awards.
