BORDEN-CARLETON, P.E.I. — A 35-year-old Charlottetown man faces charges after he was stopped at the COVID-19 checkpoint at the Confederation Bridge in Borden-Carleton at 1 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17.
The man did not have a valid driver’s license when asked. The staff at the checkpoint suspected the driver was impaired and phoned the East Prince RCMP.
The RCMP arrived at the scene and confirmed the driver was impaired. He was arrested and transported to the East Prince detachment where he provided samples of his breath more than 2.5 times the legal limit. His vehicle was towed and impounded and he was later released from custody under safe circumstances.
The driver is scheduled to appear in court in November.
Later that same day at about 10:30 p.m., staff at the COVID-19 checkpoint phoned the RCMP once again and reported there was a suspended driver at the checkpoint.
The RCMP attended and issued the driver a ticket for driving while suspended.
