CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A 25-year-old Charlottetown man will spend nine months on probation after pleading guilty to driving while impaired by a drug.
Jared Dingwell was observed on May 7, 2017, driving his vehicle in reverse at 50 to 60 km/hr in a government parking lot in the capital city.
He crashed his vehicle into a tree, resulting in a female passenger suffering a dislocated shoulder.
Dingwell admitted to police that he had been using cocaine. A drug analysis determined he had the drug in his system.
Dingwell was also fined $1,000 on Monday and ordered to follow any direction of his probation officer regarding treatment or counselling to deal with his drug addiction.
The court heard Dingwell has secured employment and plans to return to college.
Dingwell’s lawyer said the young man accepts responsibility for his action and is working on maintaining sobriety.
Crown attorney Lisa Goulden said there was an “inexplicable’’ one-year delay in the case.
