SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - Jada Lee Elizabeth Simpson took her time to arrive.
Prince County Hospital's New Year’s baby was actually due on Christmas Day, but was reluctant to make an appearance.
“We were kind of wondering if she was going to come out there for a little bit,” said new mom, Veronica Gallant.
Jada is her first baby.
“I just feel very lucky to have her out and here with me now.”
Born by C-section at 11:08 a.m. Jan. 2, Jada weighed six pounds, 11 ounces.
“We pretty much fell in love with her the first time we saw her. She’s a very happy go-lucky baby, smiling all the time or sleeping.”

Jada’s middle names have family significance. Lee is Veronica’s mother’s middle name, while Elizabeth is dad, Gary Simpson’s, grandmother’s name.
Jada was the first arrival at the Prince County Hospital, but a baby boy born in Charlottetown was the first baby of 2019 in P.E.I. Oskar Mueller was born at 3:15 p.m. Jan. 1 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Stephanie and Markus Mueller also welcomed nine-pound, seven-ounce Oskar to the world a bit later than anticipated. He was due Dec. 29.
Gallant and Simpson live in Kensington with Simpson's children, Walker, 10, Carley, 12, Hunter, 13, and Shiane, 15.
While it’s not his first time with a new baby, Gallant said Simpson was pleased.
“He was very excited to see her. I think he fell in love with her from the first moment too.”
