EBENEZER, P.E.I. — A fire in a large machine shed in Ebenezer March 9 destroyed a $250,000 harvester.
Farmer Ben Van Ginkel said he is insured for the harvester and the roughly 12 metre by 18 metre shed, which was also destroyed, but not for the approximately $50,000 in parts and tools that were also lost in the blaze.
“It’s definitely going to be a setback for us with the loss of the tools,’’ he said.
Van Ginkel, who farms beef cattle and cash crops including wheat, corn and soy beans, said he will start rebuilding the shed soon.
He said the fire marshall determined the blaze was caused by an electrical problem with an air compressor in the shed.
New Glasgow Fire Chief Jason Peters said the fire was “working pretty good’’ when fire fighters arrived early Saturday afternoon. The North River Fire Department assisted.
Fire fighters were on the scene for a few hours.
