SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Power was briefly disrupted to the Greenwood Drive and Pope Road areas of Summerside Tuesday morning.

Electricity to some sections of that grid circuit went out shortly after 5 a.m. due to a burnt 'cutout,' a piece of equipment containing a fuse and which is designed to blow in the event of an incident and prevent a wider outage.

The cutout worked as intended and only part of the circuit lost power. However, once Summerside Electric determined what the problem was, it had to shut off the rest of the circuit to replace the cutout.

Power was fully restored to the area by 8:30 a.m.

It is unknown exactly what caused the fuse to blow, but Summerside Electric said it could have been some salt corrosion or even the age of the equipment, as some of the city's cutouts are more than 60 yeas old.
