A third candidate has announced her intention to run for Summerside’s Ward 3, Summerside – North Drive, in the upcoming municipal election.
Doreen Percy is a former police officer and educator with more than 40 years of experience in the latter field. Percy recently retired and returned to P.E.I. where she grew up.
Percy said her past experiences have given her valuable skills, especially in area of youth and families, and she wants to put those abilities to work helping to make her community a better place.
“Being energetic, positive and focused, I have gained the respect from others as a leader, team player and goal achiever. I am committed to engage the residents of ward 3 and keen to learn about their issues and opinions,” said Percy.
If elected, Percy said she will advocate for issues facing seniors and persons with disabilities as well as cultural programs, economic development and environmental issues.
Gordie Whitlock is the current councillor for Ward 3 and is reoffering. The only other candidate who has come forward, until now, is Barb Ramsey.
Islanders go to the polls in the next municipal election on Nov. 5.
