SUMMERSIDE – The current councillor so Ward 8: Wilmot has announced he will be seeking reelection this fall.

Tyler DesRoches is finishing up his first term on council and says he is pleased with what has been accomplished.

“We have seen some growth in the city, in the residential and commercial community. This council has been fiscally responsible paying down the city’s total debt while holding the line on taxes and delivering a superb product to its residents,” said the life-long Summerside resident.

He says his first years as councillor have been a learning curve while council as a whole moved forward and attracted some large and small businesses and jobs to the area.

DesRoches is business graduate from UPEI and also serves as a volunteer firefighter, a tenure he’s held for 15 years.

When elected, he was assigned the community services portfolio. He says the portfolio has flourished in installing a solar farm to power some of the demands at Credit Union Place.

The recent opening of a splash park marked another welcome addition to the community services portfolio.

“I would be ecstatic to continue to be the strong voice for Wilmot, Ward 8. We have to continue to be fiscally responsible and improve our ward and city. We as a council are working on some major affordable housing projects that hopefully will come to fruition rapidly. We also have to keep looking out for our youth, and our seniors who have looked out for us over the past number years."

He says major points for the next council to continue to build on include an affordable housing plan, keep pushing for the East/West connector for Wilmot, and continue working with government on projects like the new lighting and turning lane into Perry subdivision that should be started soon.

Carrie Adams announced earlier this summer that she would also vye for the seat.
