SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The Burger King restaurant slated for Summerside’s Granville Street Walmart has been delayed but is still in the works.
A Walmart Canada spokesperson confirmed that something has held up opening of the fast food franchise but would not elaborate further. They added that it would be opening in the fall of 2019.
Renovations work has been ongoing at the Walmart since earlier this year and the company had originally said the Burger King would be open sometime in the spring. It will be taking over a space that previously held a McDonalds restaurant.
Burger King last had a presence in Summerside in 2010 when local franchise owners decided to close their Heather Moyse Drive restaurant. The property was later purchased by the Summerside Port Authority and the building was torn down.
