Time is running out for P.E.I. residents who experienced significant damage from post-tropical storm Dorian in September to apply for help through the Provincial Disaster Financial Assistance Plan.

Friday, Dec. 13 is the deadline to submit completed applications and supporting documents to the Canadian Red Cross, which, on behalf of the P.E.I. government, is managing the plan for homeowners, small businesses and not-for-profit organizations.

The only exception is claims from agriculture and aquaculture businesses, which have an additional two months, until Feb. 13 to submit.

To begin the process, Islanders had to first register with the Red Cross no later than the end of November.

About 300 individuals, businesses and organizations did register and were sent application forms, but to date, only about 70 completed forms have been returned to the Red Cross.

Everyone who registered has received several reminders of the deadline, so it is possible many applicants decided not to follow through after reviewing eligibility criteria and other requirements.

Anyone with questions about the program can send an email to [email protected].
