SUMMERSIDE – A sitting Summerside City councillor has announced their intentions to run in their district for a second term.

On Monday, Coun. Gordie Whitlock put his name forward, saying that he was excited to come forward for re-election in the fall.

“I have enjoyed my last four years on city council immensely,” said Whitlock.

“It has been my pleasure to work hard on behalf of the residents of my ward and the entire city to ensure that Summerside remains such a wonderful place to do business and raise a family.”

Whitlock, who has worked as the general manager of Generation XX youth centre for over two decades was raised in Summerside. He now lives in the city’s downtown with his wife Lulu and represents the people of Ward 3: Summerside – North Drive.

“I am extremely proud of the many improvements in Ward 3, such as the major upgrades to the Parkview Seniors Centre, the new sidewalks on Tower and Brophy Streets, water work projects and the new splash pad recently opened at Leger Park.”

Whitlock also cited projects like the Inspire Learning Centre, the new well field and the solar project at Credit Union Place as important city-building projects he was proud to support during his term.

“While much has been accomplished there is still lots of work that needs to be done.

“I will be asking the residents of Ward 3 to place their trust in me and afford me another term on city council to be their representative as we work together to make Summerside even better.”
