GEORGETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. man pleaded guilty to common assault for throwing a cup of hot tea at a woman who had been insulting him.
John MacDonald Dixon will be sentenced on Dec. 3 for the assault, which left the underside of the victim’s arms pink but did not require medical treatment.
The altercation took place on Sept. 11 in the parking lot of a gas station in Montague.
Provincial court heart the victim hurled verbal abuse at Dixon concerning the treatment of his former partner, who is a friend of the victim. Dixon at first tried to calm the woman and give his side of the story.
He became frustrated when his attempts to explain himself continued to be met with a verbal attack and eventually flung his large cup of hot tea at the woman seated in her vehicle.
Crown attorney John Diamond said a person does not assault another because of name calling.
“He needs to grow up," said Diamond.
Dixon’s lawyer called action a “momentary lapse" that was unacceptable.
Dixon, who has a prior assault conviction, is on a waiting list to receive anger management treatment.
